Small Business in JP

I went to Jamaica Plane and joined its small business tour on February 23rd. I could learn many things related to SDGs, a sustainable community and a city. Also, I could learn something related to my research topic.

Ginger, a tour guide, taught us about the effort that one of the supermarkets is making. She said that the supermarket is promoting composting food waste. In addition, they separate their garbage as much as possible. As I learned from the Eastie farm, composting can prevent water pollution. Without composting, food scraps may flow into the water, which will pollute. So, I was glad to find a new place that promotes composting near Showa. This was the only thing that was related to my research topic, but there were many kinds of helpful information.

I thought the idea of a community fridge was interesting. Ginger explained it is adequate to solve an issue of hunger or poverty. However, when I heard about the community fridge, I doubted it. The security is not enough, and it cannot say that all foods in the fridge are safe. So, I think it was a good idea, but it needs some improvement, such as putting a security camera, setting passwords on the fridge, and so on.

Although there are some doubts, I could learn many ideas or efforts to achieve SDGs goals. I want to think deeper about my suspicions for some action from now.
