I went to Waterworks museum on January 27th. It is near Reservoir station.
She taught us about the history of waterworks in Boston. The history is much longer than I expected. It started being used in 1795. At first, it was made of wood. In the past, they had some problems with it. One of them was that people lived on the hill, so it was tough to give them water. They thought about the solution hard. Then they solved it to use engine or underground heat. Today, the machine has become much smaller. The more the population in Boston is, the farther they could give people water. I also knew the meaning of “reservoir” for the first time on that day. The reservoir near the station is used in case of emergency.
We also thought about the solution to water pollution. Chemical materials make the environment worse. Many cities use a lot of it. We considered about the connection between the population and the environmental injustice. Then, we thought about problems of one example city. Then, we discussed what we could do for the solution. We could visually see the water pollution because she showed us the model to use chemical materials. I was surprised at the big difference after taking some measures. I thought we should take good care of the way to make the city. Today, one-third of people in the world cannot drink clean water. We also learned about eight watershed protection tools. I didn’t know that before. I think school should teach them so that more people should know them. Today, cities have become more convenient, but the environment has become worse. We have to stop it.
I learned both the history of waterworks and today’s problem at the museum.
