I went to the Eastie farm on February 10, 2022. This place suddenly appeared in a small space between houses lined with residential areas on the street. They grow not only vegetables but also fruits and flowers. This farm’s project aims to reuse and produce without wasting anything. One such project is the use of rainwater. Rainwater is collected through pipes from the roofs of neighboring houses and used. They also use compost as an eco-friendly fertilizer in their cultivation. Composting is a system in which the waste from eating is thrown away and turned into fertilizer and the soil. I think this is the most affordable form of eco-friendly agriculture and is easy to start right away. My grandmother uses this system in her vegetable garden in Japan. The only drawback is that it has a strong smell because it is made by mixing food scraps with soil and fallen leaves. I realized for the first time that the reason why our compost is under the cherry tree is to use the rainwater. During the Corona period, the farm provided vegetables and other produce to neighbors and restaurants and provided jobs.
