On March 2nd, I joined “Cradles to Crayons” volunteer work.
Before I went there, I thought the volunteer was related to crayons because of its name, but it was different from what I expected. I made many packages of clothes for girls, checking their quality. The staff member told us that I could not put in dirty clothes, with pills, frayed ones, and so on. Also, I was surprised that I could not put in clothes with family or seasonal print. The reason for it was there are many children who don’t have parents, and they don’t celebrate seasonal events. From this volunteering, I learned that the Cradles to Crayons prioritize childrens’ self-esteem more than numbers. I think it is important for children because once a child gets low self-esteem, it will be a lifelong problem.
I couldn’t get any information related to my research topic, clean water, but if I didn’t volunteer at cradles to crayons, I couldn’t even know that there is a place to pack clothes for children and give them. Besides, I won’t even learn about the importance of “self-esteem.” So, I’m glad to join the volunteer.
