On 24th Feb, we met the British school’s students and listen to their presentation divided into four groups. I was listening about quality education. The reason why I chose the theme was I believe the topic is connecting decent work, our topic from SDGs. Also, in class, we are just learning about quality education, then that was a hot topic for me I thought too.
He mentioned that in poor countries, there are still no desks, chairs and teachers get fewer salaries. For example, in some areas, teachers work for just 5 or 7 dollars per hour. That is a bad environment for education, so he described that to take quality education for all children is using online with devices but we need to make money to get those for all kids and that is the issue.
While doing a presentation, he was really surprised because we didn’t react to anything. I explained that that is our culture that just listening carefully and not saying anything during your talking. In the room, there are four British students in total though one is from British and the other one used to live in China and another one is from India. So, we started talking about our cultural differences. The guy who is from British said “The class is messed up in the US and hates it. We cannot concentrate on the lesson”. The girl who used to live in China said “We do not say anything during the class. Just following teachers and doing the same things as classmates. That was stressful and had a lot of pressure”. The boy who is from India said, “a good idea that listens carefully to lessons and takes some notes and asks teachers if you have questions”.
His presentation was a really good one because he has a passion for children who are suffering from inequality education and researched a lot for it and finally, he showed the solution about it. He is still 16 years old though still thinking many things about this theme. Thus, this opportunity moved my mind and made me think about education more deeply. Also, to give quality education for children means you can select jobs, that is to get decent work for us.
