I heard the presentation about hunger by students in the British school.
They showed all of the objectives about hunger, and they said that people should prioritize the hunger problem in SDGs because everybody needs food, and hunger makes people irritate, worry, and anxious. I was interested in malnutrition because it’s my research topic. They explained that having a lot of food is not enough. People need to get balanced diets. Also, low-income connects the quality of food. If people get low-income, they have to keep purchasing cheap products, like McDonald’s. These foods will affect bad influences on their health because it is processed. On the other hand, organic foods are made naturally, so it is good for health. But poor people can’t get these items because of their high expensive.
They indicated GMO foods as a solution. GMO foods can help vegetables and crops bigger and more nutritious. It improves the lack of resources in starving areas. As an example, they showed nutritious rice. It is included vitamins in the rice, and people can get vitamins if they eat them. Rice is a crop eaten as a staple food. While many staple foods, such as bread and noodles, are processed, people can eat rice in its original form. However, rice doesn’t have sufficient nutrition to live. Therefore, people came up with the idea of putting other necessary nutrients into the staple food essential for life. I agree that GMO food is the best solution for improving hunger in developing countries. Still, I learned that GMO food has become illegal in some countries because it affects bad influences on the human body. So I thought I had to research that.
Finally, they presented what we can do. Students indicated that volunteering is one of the effective ways. I asked the speaker about the experience of volunteering, and she was like joining volunteering is a usual thing in the U.S. Other students also have the experience. I was surprised by the fact, and I’d like to join it.
