I went to JP Centre/South Main Streets on February 23th, 2022.
When I walked around with Ginger, a director of NPO in this JP street, I learned that “Carrot Flower,” which is a store selling food and drink, tried using alternative containers during the pandemic. According to Ginger, an owner of Carrot Flower, they didn’t like using too many plastic containers because it’s bad for the environment. When I heard this, I realized there’s a small change for committed people. And, there’s another example like this store’s effort. It’s “CITY FEED and SUPPLY” located near the Carrot Flower. When I asked the staff about plastic issues, I got good answers. The staff said that so many people use their bags, and the store mainly focuses on using paper bags. In addition, this grocery store avoids using plastic containers and protection as much as possible. As a result, it means this store doesn’t prepare too many plastic bags. They are conscious of using only large quantities of raw food and other materials. In addition, she explained that JP Centre/South Main Streets and the entire Boston tried to tackle plastic issues. And, I learned another thing. This store has been taking place the environmental activity. There was a refrigerator where everyone could put food remaining in the house and unnecessary in this refrigerator. Also, there were two kinds of wastebasket, one for containers that can recycle and another for food composition. I thought this policy influenced “responsible consumption” related to recycling and plastic issues. From these things, I learned that promoting one big problem with a small community is good to make the environment. JP Centre/South Main Streets was an example of building community and cities. Still, I thought this existence was significant to solve issues because a small community is helpful to tell the importance of making a better environment and situation to many owners and staff. Finally, I should have asked Ginger or staff about an originator who created that people could put food in a free refrigerator. I thought it was one of the efficient ways not to waste food. I recommend JP Centre/South Main Streets, especially CITY FEED and SUPPLY store, to people who want to feel the eco atmosphere and find local food.
