I went to Easie Farm on February 10th.
Eastie Farm is an open-space farm for neighbors such as people who walk around there and don’t have a car to go far and children who play near it. Their motto is growing food with their community. They described that they don’t want to act that solve something, but it makes another thing worse. Thus, they sell local food without traveling for the environment, save anything such as food craps and rainwater. They use them efficiently. For instance, they make food craps compost instead of throwing them away. They also use rainwater, which is good for plants because it doesn’t contain any chemicals, for watering plants. Along with these efforts, they educate children about food farming, and give people jobs. My research topic is “Zero Hunger.” I learned the importance of compost with food scraps. Food waste is one of the factors of starvation. They said that throwing food scraps away is easy and make clean our kitchen early, but composting them is much better than waste on the environment. My first question was about action to be one of help for solving hunger. The farmer said that farming food like he does or serving food such as a soup kitchen is one of the good solutions. My second question was about their efforts to solve hunger. When they receive calls, they bring food for neighbors. They make an effort other than CSA. Lastly, I asked him about the parts of vegetables that we can eat, although people tend to throw them away. He taught me that we could eat green parts of the vegetable, like the leaves of carrots. According to him, if we cook soup with those parts, we can eat them more deliciously. This farm cares about the environment and its neighbors, so I would like to recommend it to anyone who wants to learn how to become nice to the environment or how to help people who suffer from starvation to access healthy food.
