Mirin Seki (Water Sanitation)
Our group interviewed Mr. Brendon’s father. He works in a water facility, so we thought the interview would be relevant to our theme of “water sanitation. I was going to interview him with the whole group, but he suddenly called one of the students, so I could not participate in the interview directly. We asked him three questions: what developed countries should do, what we can do, and what he is actually working on. The first answer was that it is important for developed countries to provide information, money, and technology. He said that in some areas in Africa, there is not even electricity, so they should provide technology and money so that people can manage water facilities independently. Second, he said it is important to avoid using plastic products and not to waste water on a daily basis. For example, they should use low-flow shower heads and purchase washing machines and dishwashers that use less water. Finally, he said that he gives presentations on water at universities and local governments. He has recently been working to encourage people to stay safe with water in the event of a coronavirus pandemic.
Although I was not able to listen to his interview in person, I learned that there are many things we can do, and I would like to implement them.
