I went to a guest speaker on 3rd Mar. Her name is Sara. She helps children to improve leadership skills at One Bead.
She started this project when she was the same age as us. I was surprised at her activity and brave. She thought of “core values,” for example, youth voice, community, empathy, and humanity. Children usually don’t have the opportunities to improve these skills, so she projected One bead program, which is entrepreneurship for elementary and middle school pupils. Their model is that children meet leaders and then pitch ideas. It makes a difference. They have children practice public speaking a lot because they think it builds confidence. Actually. 86% of the students said they got more confidence after the program. The students also donate, and then the donation help people. For example, it helps people who don’t have laptops because the number of people who need them for jobs is increasing by COVID.
We also think about the most essential thing in my life. We chose ten topics from many words, and then we reduced more and more. At last, we chose only one topic. I thought “success” was the most important for my life because we get more confidence, happiness, motivation, and bravery when we succeed. For that, I think success leads to many good things for me. However, many people chose many different topics. I thought the value depended on each people.
I asked her some questions after the lesson. I asked whether the leadership skill leads to getting decent work. She said, “Yes.” She supports children to act from small groups to a big community. The skill leads to passion, and then it is connected to bravery. They will use their big voice and take care of anything, and then they will get good jobs. I thought her project was amazing. I want to act for other people like her. I think the project is connected to “quality education,” “decent work,” “reduced inequalities,” and “sustainable cities.” For that, I think she also helps SDGs.
