We interviewed Catharine on March 1st, 2022. She works at Food Bank and has a lot of knowledge about hunger.
She gave us a lot of information. For example, about 811 million people suffer from food insecurity, half of them are in Asia. That is hard to believe because Japan is one of the countries in the Asian region. Another example is 60% of food that hungry people have is perishable. I thought that was a problem because it leads to illness or death. So we should give them non-perishable food.
In addition, she said there are many things we can do. First, it is essential to reduce food waste because food waste is one of the main causes of hunger. Second, we can do various kinds of volunteers and donate food and money to help hungry people. The most interesting thing that we can elect a politician who will change low for hunger.
It was a valuable experience, and I learned how serious the hunger situation is.
