I went to the FOOD BANK on March 10, 2022.
I packaged some food into boxes. There were many kinds of food such as canned corn, cereal, pasta, and beverages. Through today’s volunteering, I felt many people are needed to package food and move some things because there were over five small areas to put specific food into paper bags. And before I joined the packaging activity, I saw a lot of products along the passageways. After working, other members and I received Volunteer Productivity Report from FOOD BANK’s staff. According to that report, it said that we made 1,450 meals, and “4,368 meals feed a family of 4 for one year.” I was surprised, and I realized that today’s work reached only one-third. From this information, I thought I must take good care of food again.
And on the other hand, I saw some food packaged in plastic. When it comes to comparison between COMMUNITY SERVING, there was some food packaged plastic, but there was much-canned food. I thought canned products were also helpful to reduce plastic issues. I’m not sure how canned products influence our environment and how much carbon dioxide canned products have. Therefore, I wanted to research by myself strongly. I recommend this place to people who would like to help with food serving.
