Zero Hunger

Food Bank

I did volunteer work at Food Bank on March 10th. I learned that there are many people who need food. I found the words written on the wall. According to this, 1 in 10 in Eastern Massachusetts struggles to have enough food. Also, 1 in 8 of them is a child. I worked for about one and a half hour packing food into boxes. There were various kinds of food, so it  is helpful for people who need food. At the end, the staff told us what we had accomplished. He told that our work contributed to 1,450 meals. I was glad to hear that because I felt our work helped those in need of food. I was surprised at the amount of food stocked. I found many packs of food and drinks on my way to go to the workshop. I did not know some people in Massachusetts were lack of food. I felt we should be grateful that we have enough food. Some people do not have enough access to get food, so we should not waste food. It can lead to reducing food waste. Our research is about reducing plastic waste, so it might have some connection in terms of reducing waste. I felt the importance of Our research topic “Responsible consumption and production.” I spent all of my time working, so I was not able to ask any questions. I wanted to ask how they gather that much food or drinks. I recommend this place to people who are interested in poverty and hunger issues.
