I visited small businesses at Jamaica Plain on February 23rd, 2022.
These are non-profit organizations, and they have a strong connection to local people. Many products and foods come from neighbors, so it is good for the local economy and environment. In addition, they try not to use plastics to reduce emissions. They had bad effects from the COVID-19 pandemic, so it is still hard to sell products for a low price.
I think that the most interesting thing is the fridge. There is a donation refrigerator on the street, and people can donate food that they do not need anymore. I think this is an excellent thing because it leads to reducing food waste. Food waste is one of the root causes of hunger, so it is possible to contribute to zero hunger.
I often go there, but I did not know that JP has this wonderful organization. I learned these small businesses contribute to a good environment, and it is necessary to think about local businesses and people when we go shopping.
