I discussed zero hunger with British school students on February 24.
Students in British School UN club gave a presentation about zero hunger, and they told us what zero hunger is, five targets, the reasons why Zero hunger is a priority, what is being done, and what we can do. In their presentation, there is information that we learned too, but they have more information, knowledge, and experiences than us. So, I can learn many things from them. What impressed me most was the reasons why Zero hunger is a priority and volunteer. They said that food fulfills basic physiological needs like the basis of the pyramid. Malnourishment affects all other aspects of people’s lives. For example, being hungry may cause anger or annoyance, and without food, we cannot make a productive society. I think this idea is very important and interesting. Also, they taught us about volunteers such as Greater Boston Food Bank, Loving Spoonfuls, Operation Frontline, and American Red Cross Food Pantry. In the volunteer activity, people distribute food to poor people and collect canned or boxed food. Although we have never participated in volunteer related to hunger in Japan, they have participated in those volunteers. I felt the difference in the hunger situation between Japan and the U.S.
