I interviewed to Tamara on Feb 18th. I learned that COVID-19 caused people’s mental health problems to expand in the U.S. In particular, many people are concerned about wearing masks. She said that communication is very important in such an extraordinary life. She was also concerned about the culture clash between Japan and the US. In Japan, everyone wears masks as a matter of course. On the other hand, in the US, there are many people who do not. Because freedom is respected and different people have different values in the U.S. I understand this problem through my own experience of “culture shock” while studying abroad. I was most interested in what she’d like to see in the US health care system in the future. She said, “We should make it more accessible to more people. This isn’t limited to the problems formed by Corona. After the interview, I did some more research on this and found out that the cost of medical care in the U.S. can range from $150 to $300 for an initial consultation alone. I consider that it is very important to have food, clothing, shelter, and medical care because of the persistent problems of democracy and discrimination. However, she said that in the U.S., benefits for the homeless and those who lost their jobs are very generous. I think this is quite wonderful. I hope that an insurance and medical system that is accessible to everyone will be established soon. I’d like to introduce Japanese healthcare to American healthcare professionals and government officials, as I believe it’s accessible to all.
