We went to Jamaica Plain Centre/South Main Streets on Feb 23rd.
I had gone to this street before, and it took 30 minutes from our dorm on foot. But I only went to CVS pharmacy tho.
Ms. Ginger is the only employee of this street’s Small Business Association. She helps these local small businesses to develop. Her husband has been working at his own bakery for 18 years at JP street. The bakery uses local ingredients, such as chocolates and coffee. Using local food helps them be sustainable, but COVID-19 made the price expensive. Most small businesses are run by four to five employees, and small neighbors need special treats like languages.
I found a community refrigerator is interesting because it can’t stand without trust in neighbors. It needs helps to keep clean, it might destroy, and people could steal food. It’s nice to be able to help each other.
One of the restaurants, Carrot Flower, is working on composting from the garbages. They don’t have space outside the store, so they use a freezer to keep those garbages. It’s impressive because they need to spend extra money to do that. A sustainable society is all about sacrifice.
