Eastie Farm

I visited Eastie Farm on February 10,2022.

The most important information I learned is the staff make compost from food scraps because the chemical in the soil is one of the causes of water pollution. When it rains, the chemical in the soil flows into rivers or oceans, which leads to the contamination of water.

The most interesting fact is they gather rainwater, and it is helpful for the plants and building around the farm. Rainwater has microbes, and it is nutrition for plants. Also, falling water is not good for the durability of buildings. However, they cannot get enough water stably by collecting rainwater. Therefore, they have tanks to keep water and sometimes get city water as well.

I learned that farms have something to do with water pollution. I thought that if we improve the situation of factories, the water problems will be solved. However, I realized there are some other reasons for contamination of water quality, so I will research farms’ impact on water quality and look for other causes.

The question I have after the research mission is that are there any harmful impacts on the environment by using compost made from food scraps?
