I went to cleenland on January 31.
Cleenland is a low-waste store that sells many products, such as toothbrushes made with recycled plastic. Not only that, but all of cleenland’s products are eco-friendly. For example, they sell toothbrushes made of bamboo and plastic-free hair ties. The hair ties are biodegradable, so they will not stay in the environment forever. I thought it was unique because the ones we usually use are made of plastic. As I mentioned, they also sell toothbrushes made from reused plastic. It says that when we are done, we can bring it back to the store and recycle it again. I thought this was a great way to reduce plastic waste. Lastly, they sell shampoo, conditioner, or soap by weight. The customers bring the empty container and put as much as they want. I was surprised because I had never seen a store selling it this way before, but I thought it was a great idea. Therefore, it is important for both companies and customers to make an effort to reduce the use of plastic because there are so many effective ways. The most interesting fact is that many of the products came from Massachusetts and other nearby states. I thought it was good for the environment because it could reduce fuel and carbon emissions from transportation. Our topic is sustainable consumption and production, but I focused on customer behavior, such as using reusable bags when shopping. However, I got some new knowledge about the producers’ efforts through this trip, so I would like to do more research on the company’s attacks. I have learned a lot through this field trip. I am curious about how many low-waste stores are there in the U.S. I do not see many low-waste stores in the U.S. and Japan, and it was the first time I visited a low-waste store. I would like to recommend this store to people who are interested in plastic waste or environmental issues.
