Eastie Farm

I went to Eastie farm on February 10th.

I learned some new important things about food waste. First of all, the staff told us what they do in this place. They compost and contribute to reducing food waste. I am not familiar with compost, so that I could see it for the first time, but there were not there because of winter…. But I understood its process. And also, they told us about where the water came from. Water for growing plants came from rainwater. I saw four drums that were in rainwater. In other words, the stock water. It means that they do not use tap water. This farm practice is eco-friendly. I was surprised that this farm is surrounded by many houses close to the street. I have never seen such a city farm. I wondered if it works, but they said this farm started in 2015, so I was interested in its maintenance. I guess they get residents to cooperate.

In fact, at an entrance, it was written, “Feel free to enter, relax, and enjoy. Say hello!” This message is related to my research mission. My research is about people’s health during COVID-19. So, I think its message helps residents during isolation from the public. I asked staff what they did on the farm during the pandemic. They said they concentrated on distributing fresh food for residents and restaurants with help from the government. I want to know more detail about it. So, I have a question “what is the most worrisome thing about expanding the COVID-19?” I recommend this research mission to anyone depressed because of this terrible situation. To listen to someone’s positive feelings about this situation is helpful to change our minds.
