I went to Eastie Farm on February 10th as the field trip.
Then, I asked the staff a few questions related to the research topic of education. Eastie Farm gives children a farm experience called “Junior Farms.” Thus, I asked, “Are there opportunities for poor children to learn and experience farms?” The staff said that every child has a chance to be able to do farm experience for free. Of course, including poor children can do it. Teenagers like us help this program. Many young people teach how to grow and skills for children. They can get money from Eastie Farm. This information is not directly related to my research, but I think Junior Farms is one of the solutions to provide educational opportunities for poor children.
In addition, Eastie Farm helps local restaurants. I was surprised that Eastie Farm provided 5,000 meals every week to a restaurant. Due to the pandemic, some restaurants are difficult to continue running. I also found good information related to the essay on zero hunger. Eastie Farm teaches how to make nutritious foods by using local foods. They cooperate with some organizations like YMCA. YMCA works on providing free foods, considering improving health. Especially, many kids are undernourished, which is a serious problem. They need to improve their health. With these supports, people can learn how to cook healthy foods is a good idea to achieve zero hunger.
I wonder how many children come here to learn about farms after the trip. My question is, how many kids do come here to experience farms? By the way, I recommend this place to people who want to consider hunger, poverty, environment, etc. Additionally, I also encourage someone who wants to do volunteering. Eastie Farm provides some volunteering so that someone can experience good volunteer. Then, they could learn how to plant, make nutritious foods, and so on.
