My groupmate and I went cleenland, placed in the Cambridge area on the 31st of January.
This store sells many products such as daily necessaries and soap, and I found that this store sells soap that is not included water. In addition, Sarah, the owner, told us that she doesn’t use much plastic material when wrapping products. When we saw around inside the shop, few products are included plastics, so I was surprised that. At the same time, I realized that we waste unnecessary plastic overflowing around us. For example, I found that we can show many things as good ones without plastics. Through these things, I learned that the owner could change how they package products by making them free of water, one of the harmful sources of sensitive products. On the other hand, other products are sold by weight. I thought this way is helpful for everyone to buy and save our environment in terms of getting an efficient amount of shampoo, conditioner, face wash, etc. And Sarah said that customers could bring any box or container to buy efficient products. I also learned this activity is important in the plastic recycling container already used once. All products in the store focus on sustainability and consideration for the environment. My topic is related to the production and consumption of plastics. Therefore, the solution style is important because I realize that we can use alternative materials more and more. Especially, I thought getting rid of water is a good approach to reduce unnecessary containers used for daily necessaries and detergent. After this field trip, I have a question why many stores don’t put many refill packs. I have seen many of them in a supermarket in Japan, so I wondered why people don’t sell them. Finally, I recommend this store to people who focus on activities that reduce plastic issues.
