We visited the waterworks museum on January 26, 2022.
Something I found interesting was that this location had the first laboratory in the United States to test water for organisms that cause disease. The guide also described how the “engines” used to pump water became smaller and more efficient in order to meet the demand of the increased population in Boston. Finally, it was surprising to see the maps that showed the connection between factory locations, clean water environments, and racial minority groups. It seems that most factories were located where minorities live, which means their access to clean water is not equal to others. This was an example of why need to focus on environmental justice! I wonder if this is an issue in other countries, where minorities have less access to clean water?
